91Ö±²¥ requires that all full-time Undergraduate students (enrolled in 12 or more credit hours) and actively attending classes at 91Ö±²¥ be covered by health insurance.

Student Health Insurance Waiver – 91Ö±²¥

Health insurance is mandatory for all full-time undergraduate students at 91Ö±²¥ University.  To assist students with this requirement, Aetna has been selected to administer the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).  All 91Ö±²¥ students will be automatically enrolled in this plan, and the fee will be assessed to their student bill unless they complete the waiver process and are approved. International students are not eligible to waive coverage and will be automatically enrolled in the 91Ö±²¥ Aetna Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP).

Before requesting a waiver, ensure your health insurance plan meets all of the following criteria:

  1. Meets ACA & NY State Standards – The plan must satisfy the minimum benefit requirements of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and New York State.
  2. Covers the Local Area – The plan must provide comprehensive coverage in the immediate region of 91Ö±²¥â€™s campus.
  3. Active for the Entire Academic Year – The plan must remain in effect for the full duration of the student’s enrollment.
  4. U.S. Based Insurance Provider – The carrier must be a U.S. based insurance company.

It is important that you contact your health insurance provider to confirm that your current plan covers the following services in New York State:

  • Specialty care visits
  • Urgent care visits
  • Behavioral health care
  • Inpatient hospital care
  • Physical therapy
  • Prescription medications
  • Lab work
  • Medical imaging

Plans that only cover emergency room visits are NOT considered comprehensive and do not meet the requirements for the waiver process.

If you have a student-athlete and have questions or concerns about your coverage, please contact the Sports Medicine Staff @ (914) 323-7276.

Failure to confirm adequate coverage may result in unexpected medical expenses. Regardless of the health insurance coverage selected, 91Ö±²¥ is not responsible for any medical expenses incurred by students, including those related to doctor’s visits, treatments, or other healthcare services.
